Rabbits, here in the United States have
been nearly forgotten.They make
excellent pets,and are delicious when
 eaten.

As pets they are quite, cuddly, and cute,
can be litter box trained. They are not
demanding pets. Requiring daily,fresh
water and feed.They enjoy being
talked to,and having a loving caress or
two a day.(they do not like to be
carried suspended in the air.)

As food the meat is lean, (no fat in the
meat). All white meat, can be prepared
by: frying,broiling,baking,grilling,
boiling,and on rotisseries.

Rabbits produce five or more times the
meat, when bred.A good doe can have
anywhere from five to fifteen babies
per litter.

All you have to do is feed and breed,
keep their cages clean, and love them.

Rabbits can be a source of income if
sold to a reputable company.(contact
 us for seller information.)

Eggs and Meat.......

When deciding to raise chickens for eggs you need to have double the hens as you have members of your family. A chicken lays one egg a day,and most people eat at least two for breakfast. If wanting to raise your own meat you need to have a few extras to save the eggs for hatching. Using two small incubators, here we hatch twice a year for babies to sell ,and for meat.

Roosters are only required if you want to raise the babies. Hens lay without the use of roosters,if you want to raise babies you need a rooster to fertilize the eggs. One rooster to ten hens or less.

Raising baby chicks requires heat, feed and water. None of which is hard to come by.

Rabbits as pets.....

Rabbits make good pets for the young, they are
soft and cuddly and love to be petted. A rabbit
adores the person who loves and cares for it.
They learn to respond to a voice they hear often.
They can be trained to urinate in a litter box.
When handled gently they respond by
carressing thier owners with nose nudges.
Young children should be told rabbits do not
like to be carried suspended in the air .This
scares them. They should be placed in the
bend of the arm.

We are a small farm and spend time daily
petting our animals. If you are looking for a
pet to love, that will love you back, contact
us at: bks@simpsonsbackyardfarm.com
We offer great bunnies.
